Steve VS. Osvaldo

Steve and Osvaldo  are similar in some ways, here are some ways they are similar.  Steve and Osvaldo both were involved in the crime. They both had the same job, they were both lookouts. Some ways they are different are that Osvaldo is 14 and Steve is 16. One more way they are different is that Osvaldo is in the Diablos gang and Steve is not in any gang. They both are different people but they both do some of the same stuff.

Cruz should be tried as well as Steve. Cruz was just as involved in the crime as Steve was. Cruz might have only walked because he was younger, and he was not there for the planning of the crime. Cruz was also in a gang, and he lied in court. I think Cruz is just as guilty as Steve. I think the author made it this way to show how unfair Steve's situation is. I think he is trying to show Steve's innocence in a slow way. I also think having the part of Steve and his dad adds more drama to the story

Steve's inner conflict

Steve opens up his inner conflict by saying hes not the bad person he is just a really good person inside and he knows that he is a good person. We see a very sad person in Steve and how he is in prison, and that he says he doesn't belong in prison. Steve can see why people cry in prison and feels bad for them and what they did. Steve starts to feel really sad and he is really worried and wondering what will happen to him.

Steve worried? or Not Worried?

Steve is going through jail and he is thinking to himself that he doesn't belong there. Steve keeps thinking to himself that he doesn't he himself in the mirror. Steve cries at night and hopes he doesn't get beat up for it. All Steve hears at prison is somebody getting beat up, killed, or himself sniffling. As Steve has nothing to do he thinks he is in a movie, but its nothing like a movie, instead he tries to create a movie in his head to avoid boredom.
As I (Branden Brown) have seen many movies about jails, this is a true story. American History X is a movie about a man defending his family in times that are rough in his neighborhood and he shot and killed 3 African Americans, just to defend his family. He was also sent to jail that day and wasn't seen by any of family members for 7 years. As he starts as fresh meat at this prison he looks at other prisoners and thinks they aren't much, but he finds himself in trouble everywhere he goes and gets sent to the infirmary. He later discovers how to survive in this prison and kills 3 more men in the prison uncontrollably in a fight. He then is released 5 years after that.
Steve is probably really worried, and i would be also if I was 16 and in court for something that wasn't me. Steve may be thinking if he will be in jail this long or death sentenced he would scared of how he will die or how long he will be sentenced. He could not be worried in a reason because he has a defense team on his side. Capitol punishment should not be allowed in any state and for Steve.

I am from…..
Adapted by Levi Romero
Inspired by “Where I’m From” by George Ella Lyon
I am from My chair
from in my room and out my door
I am from the messy
cupcake smell
I am from the tall grass
The great tree
whose long gone limbs I remember
as if they were my own.
I’m from Irish and big footed
from Shawn and Joe
I’m from waking up and sleeping
and from working.
I’m from walk and talk
and my old language
I’m from celebrating Christmas
I’m from Des Moines and Carroll, Iowa
buffalo chicken and hamburgers
From my older sister who died and never got to see the world
she was still treated like a real baby even after she died
My Grandparents safe

locked up in my parents room

Style of the African Americans in New York

In 1920 the Harlem Renascence began for African Americans so they can be more successful and become famous. On a street called 125th street there is more modern clothing music stores and much more. Another popular street is 116 street and mostly the market there is African American products with bright colors and many arts. Apollo theater is where most African Americans go to become famous if the have the skill; whether it could be music writing or even singing. Harlem is a large area with many African Americans come to become famous and live a successful life. In 1969 African Americans came to sing in Harlem. Most of the town's culture is based on god.

Juvey or Jail?

Juveniles that do actual crimes that adults do, should be charged as an adult. The reasoning for this is because they may have the mind of a criminal, gang, ect. Juveniles that actually commit serious crimes should be charged with full penalties without early parole. If a juvenile is placed in prison for life for what he/she did it could the reason for violent video or because their brain is not fully developed yet. If an adult is tried in court for serious penalties then he/she should be sentenced for life.
